EEOS 381 - Applications of Geographic Information Systems
Spring, 2008

- Lab 1 -

The purpose of this lab is to become familiar with some principles of relational database management systems (RDBMS) and learn some of the basics of Microsoft Access 2003 RDBMS software. RDBMS technology and concepts are increasingly being used in GIS applications and are the foundation of the ArcGIS geodatabase format.

*** Prior to beginning the lab, copy the practice files that accompany the PDF lab book into a folder on your H: drive. The sample databases are located in S:\ge381_s08\Access_Practice. (For organizational purposes, I suggest creating a folder on your H: Drive to store the practice files and any work you save, rather than placing them at the top level of H:). The lab manual files are located in S:\ge381_s08\Access_Book.
