EEOS 381 - Applications of Geographic Information Systems
Spring, 2008

- Lab 2 -

The purpose of this lab is to become familiar with creating and working with tables in Microsoft Access 2003 RDBMS software. RDBMS technology and concepts are increasingly being used in GIS applications and are the foundation of the ArcGIS geodatabase format.

*** For this lab, as in Lab 1, copy the practice files that accompany the PDF lab book into a folder on your H: drive. The sample databases are located in S:\ge381_s08\Access_Practice. (For organizational purposes, I suggest creating a folder on your H: Drive to store the practice files and any work you save, rather than placing them at the top level of H:). The lab manual files are located in S:\ge381_s08\Access_Book.

Lab 2  (60 points)

  1. Complete Lessons 4, 7 and 8 in the lab manual.
  2. Create a new MS Word or Notepad file named <your_username>_lab2.doc (or .txt if you use Notepad) and answer all the True/False, Multiple Choice, and Short Answer questions on pages 129-130 (for Lesson 4), pages 263-264 (for Lesson 7) and on pages 311-312 (for Lesson 8).
  3. Copy your completed document into T:\EEOS_381\381_labs_submit\lab2.
