EEOS 381 - Applications of
Geographic Information Systems
Spring, 2008
- Lab 4 -
Objective:
Become familiar with the
ESRI Personal Geodatabase data format by completing
the Editing Geodatabases Tutorial.
Steps:
1. Create
a folder on your H: drive named lab4_381
2.
Copy into H:\lab4_381 the zip folder S:\ge381_s08\labs\lab4\EditingWithArcGIS.zip
3.
Extract the contents of the zip into H:\lab4_381.
4. Go
through the entire “Editing_Geodatabases_Tutorial.pdf”
PDF document, which is located in S:\ge381_f07\ESRI_PDFs.
Note that the tutorial references
data in C:\arcgis\ArcTutor\EditingWithArcGIS, but you will need to replace any
reference of that path with H:\lab4_381 (to access the data, make folder
connection, etc.). All your edits will be saved in H:\lab4_381.
When you open the “Editing a Geodatabase.mxd” file in
ArcMap (page 7), go to File > Map Properties and
click “Data Source Options” and make sure that ‘Store relative path names’ is
selected. (If not, click that option and save the MXD).
Save your edits and the .mxd as you go along (so if ArcMap
crashes, you won’t lose all your work).
5.
When done, save edits and stop editing, then save your MXD as <your_username>_lab4.mxd.
6. In
Windows Explorer, select your .mxd and the Montgomery_full.gdb and right-click and choose Send To >
Create a compressed (zipped) folder. Rename it <your_username>_lab4.zip
and then copy the .zip folder into T:\EEOS_381\381_labs_submit\lab4.
